Lorraine Hill joins industry leaders in conversation on gender, leadership and the future of manufacturing

Our Group Chief Operations Officer, Lorraine Hill, recently joined a diverse panel of industry leaders at the Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies’ breakfast seminar, in Durban. Held during South Africa’s Women’s Month, under the theme Gender, Generation and Leadership in the Manufacturing Sector, the session created an important platform for reflection on the progress made in advancing gender equity, the challenges that remain, and the leadership required to build a more inclusive and future-ready manufacturing sector.
Lorraine Hill joins industry leaders in conversation on gender, leadership and the future of manufacturing

Participating in the panel discussion, Lorraine shared insights from her leadership journey and from Aspen’s experience as a global organisation operating in a complex, highly regulated and people-driven industry. The discussion brought together varied perspectives on how gender, generational change and leadership intersect in industrial workplaces. Lorraine’s participation added a strong operational leadership voice to the conversation, highlighting the importance of creating environments where women are visible, supported and able to progress meaningfully across all levels of an organisation.

A key theme emerging from the discussion was that celebrating women’s achievements remains essential, particularly during Women’s Month. Recognition helps to create role models, inspire future generations and make women’s contributions more visible. However, the conversation also challenged leaders to look beyond individual success stories and examine the systems, structures and workplace cultures that continue to influence the experience of many women in industry.

For Aspen, this aligns closely with our ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Through our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Framework, we continue to promote fair access to opportunities, foster a culture of belonging and recognise the value that diverse teams bring to our business, our people and the communities we serve.

Lorraine’s involvement in the panel served as a reminder that meaningful transformation depends on leaders who are willing to ask difficult questions – not only those who have succeeded, but those who remains excluded, and what must change so that success is no longer the exception. Her participation also reflected Aspen’s continued commitment to contributing to broader industry conversations that encourage inclusive leadership and help shape workplaces that are more representative, equitable and prepared for the future.
