Aspen contributes to national dialogue on healthcare transformation at NEXEC National Health Sector Summit 2026

This month, Aspen was proud to participate in the NEXEC National Health Sector Summit 2026, a significant national platform that brought together leaders from government, healthcare, business, academia and civil society to explore how South Africa’s health sector can be strengthened through partnership, implementation and measurable impact.

Representing Aspen as one of the summit’s key speakers, Stavros Nicolaou, Group Senior Executive: Strategic Trade, who spoke alongside the National Department of Health Director General, Professor Nic Crisp, and Special Advisor to the Minister of Health, Dr Nono Simelela, contributed to important discussions on the role of business in advancing healthcare transformation and helping to build a more resilient, inclusive and future-ready health system. His participation reflected Aspen’s continued commitment to constructive collaboration across the public and private sectors, particularly in areas that support improved access to healthcare, local capability building and sustainable health outcomes.

Speaking on the importance of sustained investment in health systems and people, Stavros noted, “Healthcare experience is one of the wisest investments you can make in human capital. We’ve got to be clear that when you spend on healthcare, it’s an investment — it’s not an expense.”

This perspective resonated strongly with one of the central themes of the summit: the role of young people in healthcare transformation. The discussions highlighted the importance of recognising young people not only as beneficiaries of policy, but as active partners in implementation. This aligns closely with Aspen’s belief in building capacity, strengthening skills and supporting future generations who will help shape the healthcare systems of tomorrow.

The summit’s Strategic Outcomes & Proceedings Report captures the key conversations, commitments and implementation priorities that emerged from the engagement. More than a record of the day, the report serves as a roadmap for action, highlighting the need to move beyond dialogue towards practical partnerships that can help unlock progress across the health sector.

For Aspen, participation in platforms such as the NEXEC National Health Sector Summit reinforces the importance of working together to address complex healthcare challenges and build health systems that are responsive, sustainable and inclusive.

While the summit has concluded, the work of partnership, implementation and impact continues.
