Aspen celebrates 15 years of commitment to Nelson Mandela Day

The true heroes of our Mandela Day campaign are our employees who continue to volunteer to make a difference through their acts of selfless generosity, humility and care for those in need.
Stephen Saad, Aspen Group Chief Executive

Durban – JSE Limited listed Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Limited (“Aspen”), a global specialty and branded pharmaceutical company, is demonstrating ongoing commitment to Mandela Day by hosting more than 60 activities in some 36 countries and territories during 2025.

Stephen Saad, Aspen Group Chief Executive said, “We are deeply mindful of the needs of marginalised communities including those who are impoverished or displaced due to socio-economic conditions such as climate change, war or conflict. This is evident from our 15 consecutive years of participation in Mandela Day, which in itself endorses the sentiment that the heart of Aspen extends much further than improving the health of patients through affordable, effective medicine.”

“Over the past decade and a half, our employees across six continents have continually stepped forward as volunteers of this programme by identifying and partnering with worthy organisations to make a difference in the world. Witnessing them take on the role of our Mandela Day ambassadors has been profoundly moving, and we honour them as they personify our ethos of Healthcare. We Care. through their actions of selfless generosity, solidarity, humility and care.”

In 2025 Aspen will reach more than 920 000 beneficiaries since launching its Aspen Mandela Day campaign in 2011. Over the past 15 years, this Group-wide flagship socio-economic development initiative has been strongly driven by more than 45 000 employees representing 63 established offices where Aspen has had a business presence.

Aspen’s Mandela Day programme strives to contribute towards combating poverty and inequity among vulnerable communities and providing relief to abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused babies, children and women and the elderly. With every 10th person in the world impacted by extreme poverty[1], the Group also engages in initiatives that provide relief to malnourished, hungry and homeless individuals. Activities are hosted for disabled individuals as well as those inflicted with mental wellness challenges; students facing limited academic opportunities; residents at social rehabilitation institutions; healthcare facility patients who need support and equipment; environmental and climate challenges; and inequality, among others.
