An Aspen Pharmacare (Port Elizabeth) initiative
As was widely reported in the international media, huge fires wrecked havoc in the Eastern Cape, South Africa along the Garden Route during the week of 8 June 2017, ravaging the majority of Knysna and sections of Plettenberg Bay, Thornhill and Van Staden’s gorge among other. The flaming nightmare continued across this region for a few days leaving thousands of residents destitute and homeless.
Many families lost their homes and livelihoods in the fires, but the greatest loss was that of the lives of loved ones. The Aspen PE Women’s Forum immediately mobilized employees in response to pleas for assistance from the victims of the fires.
The generosity of the staff was exceedingly heart-warming, and within 24 hours an astounding amount of donations were received and dispatched to offer some relief to those in need. Donations continued to pour in and a second collection was consolidated and delivered on 15 June 2017.
Amid great tragedy and loss to the residents in this region, the kindness of our people remained steadfast and they demonstrated a corporate moral spirit that is synonymous with the brand that is grounded on caring for others.
